Cookie's story
I wanted to select one non-profit to donate my pro bono hours to. I have been a long term foster mom for Camp Cocker Rescue and I communicate with many of their rescued dogs.
Cookie was found under a dumpster by animal control, with five newborn puppies that were only a few days old.
Animal control brought her to safety at the shelter and Camp Cocker Rescue then saved the entire family. When Cookie joined Camp Cocker with her babies, I was asked to communicate with Cookie. Here is how our communication went:
As I tuned into Cookie, she slowly got up and started wagging her tail with her shy smile.
Then as I created my mental images she sniffed my energy field and she slowly approached me. She nudged my hand with her forehead and asked me to pet her head. Then she rolled over and showed me her belly.
I told her that her rescuers sent me here to talk to her, and asked her to tell me about herself and her favorite things.
She said she has being very busy taking care of her babies and she has not have time to rest. I was surprised she did not hide her babies, many mama dogs will hide puppies if this is my initial contact with them.
She said she loves people and she loves to cuddle with people. She showed me how she always followed her previous owner around. Ever since she had her puppies, she has being hiding and away from people. She has been longing to have human connection.
I asked her to tell me about her previous life before she was found under the dumpster.
She showed me how she used to live in a house with her owner when she was young until a year ago. Then she showed me how she lived on the street with her mom. It looked like she was living in a tent on the street for a while?? She said she often followed mom and goes to places and she was also getting food from other people in the community. She was also with other dogs within the community. She missed her life in a house but she got used to it.
She showed me one day her mom did not come back to the little tent that she was living in. Eventually she knew babies are growing inside her body and she needed to stay away from the people in the community. She was so hungry but she needed to survive to take care of her babies. She said her babies kept her going and not to give up hope.
She said when people approached her, she was very scared and did not know what is going to happen but she knew she needed to seek help. She was so starving and she knew puppies would not make it.
She feels safe right now in her foster home with Camp Cocker and she loves how nice and clean smell the house. She missed living inside of a house.
She loves how her foster mom is taking really good care of her and her pups. Although initially she was uncertain about the situation, she is now trusting her foster mom to handle her babies.
Also if she hears other dogs barking and if she is with her babies, she needs to let her foster mom know that she needs a bit of quiet time. She trusts her foster mom but she gets a bit overwhelmed by other dogs’ barking because she feels that she needs to protect her babies from other dogs. She said she likes other dogs but she just doesn't know them yet enough to show them her puppies.
How I ask a dog about the passage of time is I ask them to show me how many times the sun has risen and how many times the sun has set - then we count days in this way. She is showing me that she gave birth around 9 -10 days ago.
She is telling me that she loves a squeaky tiny ball that she used to play with. She seemed to be always off leash when she goes for a walk. But she will stay very close to her owner. She said she loves to cuddle with people. She said if she can have a bit of break right now from her puppies , she would just love to snuggle. She is missing her time with people and be a puppy again herself.
Next I will do a body scan of an animal I am communicating with. This was what I picked up on the day that I connected with Cookie:
She has a slight light headache. She seems a bit dehydrated (chronically) and she lost blood as well. But it is very mild. Her midback and her vulva area are a bit sore and feeling pressure but it is not bothering her. She feels a bit pressure on her back end when she tried to poo. Her stool seems a bit hard.
Her GI walls seems a bit rough from not eating nutritious food for a long time and and dehydration. Her spleen seems a bit enlarge from all of the stress from labor but I am not sensing anything alarming. Her adrenal glands seems a bit over worked as well but nothing significant.
I told her that her rescuers are going to help her and support her while she is nursing her puppies. Then when she is done with her mommy duties, the rescuers will find her the best forever home that she deserves. I explained that the rescuers will take care of her puppies so they can have a happy life and each find the best forever homes!! Then I wrapped her with a pink bubbles. (whenever I end a communication with an animal, I wrap them in a pink bubble so they feel safe and loved)
