Cali's story
A client asked me to communicate with her beloved cat, Cali to ask how she can better get along with her other cat, Misha who recently joined the family.
As I tuned into Cali, she came right up to me. She lifted her tail and rubbed her face against me. Then she brought me a little mouse toy. I asked her how she is doing. She said she was doing well, but her house dynamic has changed, and she is trying to adjust.
I told her mom sent me here to talk about your new sister, Misha.
I tasked her with what you thought about Misha. She said Misha smells different. She is always there in her favorite area.
She felt like she failed her security work, which she was very proud of. (to protect her territory and the house)
I told her that mom rescued Misha because she needed a forever family and also, you needed a sister. She said she misses her black cat friend, but Misha is different. The black cat helped her to grow and taught her a lot. Misha is different.
Then I shared what Cali shared with me to her mom.
Cali’s mom told me that Misha is in one of the rooms that Cali likes or the bed or couches that Cali thought that’s hers. Cali told me that indeed, mom has been keeping Misha to her bedroom which Cali loved to sleep and snuggled with mom in the room.
She was also in shock that Cali mentioned about a black cat. Her mom shared a story about Cali and her black cat friend who were very close before Cali was adopted by her mom. Her mom told me that Cali had a very strong connection with a black cat, who passed away not long ago. The reason mom thought that Cali may need a cat friend was because she knew about the black cat that Cali missed the most.
After her mom shared with me the story, I told Cali how I am sorry for her but told her that your cat friend would be always connected and protecting her from above so she does not feel so lonely. But Mom would be appreciate if Cali would be able to welcome Misha and asked her "what can you make you feel better and get along?".
She said it would take time for Misha’s smell to go away and become the same smell as her territory. Then she was willing to talk to her again (Cali said she tried to speak to Misha, but it did not go well). She said she needs to go very slow and likes to have her own personal space and her room back.
I shared Cali’s requests with her mom.
A few weeks later, Cali’s mother contacted me and told me that she arranged a new setting for Cali and Misha to allow them to have more time to each have a safe space. Now they are no longer fighting !
